In Colombia, building a geodesic dome or a tiny house faces a regulatory gap: NSR-10 does not explicitly address non-orthogonal geometries. The result is that most authorities reject the project by default or demand impossible requirements.

This dossier fills that gap with the strategy I used in practice:

  • Complete regulatory pathway: The 7 necessary procedures (building permit, land use, environmental, fire department, etc.) in the correct order and actual timelines for each.
  • Adapted NSR-10 Blueprint: Structural calculations for the Kruschke V3 dome presented in the format the reviewer expects — seismic resistance, wind loads, triangulated stress distribution.
  • Technical-legal argument: How to frame the dome under Title E of NSR-10 (special structures) and the regulatory sidestep for light structures.

  1. Identify your municipality and category: The guide includes a table of requirements by municipal category (1–6). Your category determines which procedures apply.
  2. Gather the base documents: Certificate of tradition and freedom (no older than 30 days), property tax clearance, copy of ID. The guide lists the 23 documents with their templates.
  3. Adapt the calculation reports: Open the Word file of reports, replace the project data (address, area, seismic zone) and adjust the loads according to your specific design.
  4. Print the plans at A1 scale: The plans are in vector PDF. Take them to a plotter or print in A3 for preliminary review.
  5. Filing: Submit the complete dossier to your municipality’s planning authority. The guide includes the filing order and how to respond if they flag the project.
  6. Follow-up: Use the follow-up checklist with actual timelines for each stage. If there are observations, the guide has a chapter of "responses to common observations".
