In Colombia, building a geodesic dome or a tiny house faces a regulatory gap: the NSR-10 does not explicitly contemplate non-orthogonal geometries. The result is that most curatorships reject the project by default or demand impossible requirements.

This dossier resolves that gap with the strategy I used in practice:

  • Complete regulatory route: The 7 necessary procedures (construction license, land use, environmental, fire department, etc.) with the correct order and the real timelines for each one.
  • Adapted NSR-10 Blueprint: Structural calculations of the V3 Kruschke dome presented in the format the curator expects — seismic resistance, wind loads, triangulated stress distribution.
  • Technical-legal argument: How to frame the dome within Title E of the NSR-10 (special structures) and the regulatory side door for lightweight structures.
  • Ready-to-file forms: Calculation reports, location plans, area table, and the application letter with the legal argumentation.

  1. Identify your municipality and category: The guide has a table of requirements by municipal category (1-6). Your category determines which procedures apply.
  2. Gather the base documents: Certificate of tradition and freedom (no older than 30 days), property clearance, copy of ID. The guide lists the 23 documents with their format.
  3. Adapt the calculation reports: Open the Word file of reports, replace the project data (address, area, seismic zone) and adjust the loads according to your specific design.
  4. Print the plans at A1 scale: The plans are in vector PDF. Take them to a plotter or print in A3 for preliminary review.
  5. Filing: Submit the complete dossier at your municipality's curatorship. The guide includes the filing order and what to do if the project receives observations.
  6. Follow-up: Use the tracking checklist with the real timelines per stage. If there are observations, the guide has a chapter on "responses to common observations".
